Connect your Shopify store

One click. Authorize. Connected. Required.

Why this matters

This is the heart of ZYLX. Connecting Shopify lets ZYLX audit your products, collections, pages, blogs, SEO, orders, customers and themes — using only the permissions you approve on Shopify's own screen. ZYLX connects through the official Shopify install flow, the same way apps like Klaviyo or Gorgias do. Nothing to create, copy, or configure — and you can disconnect at any time. (Migration note: older versions of ZYLX Studio supported manual Admin API tokens. New Shopify connections now use the official Shopify install flow.)

What it unlocks

  • Product, collection, page, and blog content for audits
  • SEO titles and descriptions to analyze and improve
  • Orders, customers, and analytics insights (if you approve those permissions)
  • Theme list and store navigation
  1. 1

Create your ZYLX Studio account and workspace

Why this matters: Your workspace is the container everything attaches to — the store connection, audits, approvals, and Claude's access. One account can hold multiple workspaces, one per brand or store.

    • Sign up at zylx.studio (or sign in) and confirm your email.
    • Create a workspace with your brand name, or select the one you want this store connected to.

    Before you continue

    • Signed in to zylx.studio
    • The right workspace is active
  2. 2

Open Integrations and click Connect Shopify

Why this matters: The connection starts from inside your workspace so the store gets linked to the right place automatically. ZYLX only asks for your store's address — never a password, key, or token.

    • Open Integrations (or the Connect Shopify Store step in the setup wizard).
    • Enter your store address — the .myshopify.com one, e.g. example.myshopify.com.
    • Click Connect Shopify.

    Before you continue

    • Store address entered
    • Clicked Connect Shopify
Look for one field (your store address) and one button — no tokens, no API settings. Your .myshopify.com address is in your browser's address bar whenever you're in the Shopify admin.
  3. 3

    Approve the permissions in Shopify

Why this matters: This is Shopify's own consent screen — it lists exactly what ZYLX may access, and Shopify enforces it on their side. What you approve here is everything ZYLX can ever do. Write access is additionally double-gated inside ZYLX by your approval queue.

    • Sign in to your Shopify store if asked.
    • Review the requested permissions: products, pages and blogs, themes, navigation, orders, customers, analytics.
    • Click Install to approve.

    Before you continue

    • Permission list reviewed
    • Install approved
This page is hosted by Shopify — ZYLX never sees your Shopify login.
  4. 4

Return to ZYLX and confirm Connected

Why this matters: After you approve, Shopify hands ZYLX a secure credential behind the scenes and you're sent straight back. The credential is encrypted and tied to your workspace — it's never displayed to anyone, so it can't be lost or leaked from a screen.

    • You're automatically redirected back to ZYLX → Integrations.
    • The Shopify card shows Connected with your store name, domain, connection date, and the permissions you approved (View permissions).
    • Optional: click Test connection, or open your Dashboard to see live store counts.

    Before you continue

    • Shopify card shows Connected
    • Store name and domain are correct
Look for the Connected status, your store details, and permission chips showing exactly what you approved.
  5. 5

    Connect an AI assistant

Why this matters: This is what lets Claude or ChatGPT operate through ZYLX. The assistant never receives Shopify credentials — ZYLX loads your store's credentials server-side, scoped to your workspace, your approved permissions, and your approval rules.

    • For ChatGPT: go to ZYLX → Agent Servers, choose ChatGPT, and follow the steps there (the Zylx Studio plugin once it is listed, or a Developer-mode app with the MCP server URL until then), then approve the Zylx sign-in.
    • For Claude: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste the same MCP server URL, then complete ZYLX sign-in. Claude Code and Codex instructions are on their own Agent Servers cards.
    • On the ZYLX approval screen, choose every business this one connection should access. Future businesses are never auto-added.
    • Ask your assistant: "Use ZYLX Studio to audit my Shopify store."
    • The assistant reads your store through ZYLX, runs audits, and sends suggestions to your Approval Queue.

    Before you continue

    • Assistant connected
    • zylx-studio tools visible
    • Assistant successfully read the store
ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, and Codex all connect to the same Zylx server through a sign-in — the public walkthrough is at zylx.studio/docs/connect.

Troubleshooting

  • Shopify says the app can't be installed

You need to be the store owner or a staff member with permission to install apps. Ask the store owner to connect, or to grant you app permissions under Settings → Users.

  • I got sent back with a security or session error

The connection link expired (valid for 10 minutes) or cookies were blocked. Click Connect Shopify and complete the approval in one go; allow cookies for shopify.zylx.studio.

  • I installed the app from Shopify first and ZYLX doesn't show it

Open the app inside your Shopify admin — it shows a 'Link to ZYLX Workspace' screen that brings you to ZYLX with your store prefilled. Click Connect Shopify there to finish linking.

  • ZYLX shows 'missing permission' when auditing orders or customers

Those permissions weren't approved during install. Click Reconnect on the Shopify card and approve the full permission list on Shopify's screen.

  • I want to revoke ZYLX's access

Click Disconnect on the Shopify card, or uninstall the ZYLX Studio app from your Shopify admin (Settings → Apps and sales channels) — either revokes access immediately.

  • My store was connected with the old manual token setup

It keeps working for now but is deprecated. Click Reconnect on the Shopify card to upgrade to the official install flow in under a minute.
