Connect ChatGPT with MCP

Use ChatGPT's custom MCP connector with ZYLX OAuth.

5 minEasy

Why this matters

ChatGPT connects to ZYLX as an OAuth MCP app. You paste the ZYLX MCP server URL into ChatGPT, sign in to ZYLX when prompted, and ChatGPT receives a scoped access token behind the scenes. Do not paste a ZYLX bearer token into ChatGPT.

What it unlocks

  • ChatGPT can read your ZYLX Business Brain and connected workspace data
  • ChatGPT can list and call the same MCP tools as other assistants
  • Suggestions and risky actions still follow ZYLX permissions and approval rules
  1. 1

    Open Agent Servers in ZYLX

    • In ZYLX, go to Agent Servers.
    • Use the Server URL shown there. It should end with /api/mcp.
    • Do not generate or copy a Claude token for ChatGPT. ChatGPT uses OAuth discovery from the MCP server URL.

    Before you continue

    • Server URL copied
    • URL ends with /api/mcp
  2. 2

Create the ChatGPT custom MCP connector

    • In ChatGPT, open Settings or your workspace admin area.
    • Go to Connectors, MCP, or Custom connectors. The exact label depends on your ChatGPT plan and workspace UI.
    • Add a new custom MCP connector.
    • Paste the ZYLX MCP server URL.
    • Choose OAuth or let ChatGPT auto-discover OAuth from the server URL.
If ChatGPT says the server does not implement OAuth, confirm the URL is exactly the ZYLX /api/mcp endpoint on the deployed domain.
  3. 3

    Choose the workspaces, then approve

    • When ChatGPT opens the OAuth flow, sign in to ZYLX.
    • The approval screen lists only businesses your account can currently open and shows owner/member capability.
    • Select all chooses every business listed now and persists those exact ids. Future businesses are not included automatically.
    • ChatGPT can name one business, compare several, or ask for all authorized businesses without custom headers. ZYLX resolves the targets server-side.
    • Finish the OAuth flow and save the connector in ChatGPT.

    Before you continue

    • Workspace(s) chosen on the approval screen
    • OAuth sign-in completed
    • Connector saved in ChatGPT
Change access later from ZYLX Agent Servers → Manage businesses. The same connector identity remains connected.
  4. 4

    Verify the connector

    • In ChatGPT, ask: "List my ZYLX workspaces."
    • Then ask: "Read my ZYLX Business Brain."
    • If the tool call is unauthorized, remove the connector in ChatGPT and repeat the OAuth setup.

Troubleshooting

  • ChatGPT asks for a bearer token

Use the OAuth custom MCP connector flow instead. ZYLX bearer tokens are for Claude Desktop and generic clients, not ChatGPT's OAuth connector.

  • ChatGPT says OAuth discovery failed

Use the canonical server URL from ZYLX Agent Servers, ending in /api/mcp. The server advertises OAuth through WWW-Authenticate and the /.well-known OAuth metadata routes.

  • ChatGPT cannot see a business

Open Agent Servers → Manage businesses. If it is available but unchecked, add it. If it is absent, your ZYLX account no longer has current membership/ownership.

  • Two businesses have similar names

ZYLX refuses ambiguous names instead of choosing the first. Ask ChatGPT to call list_workspaces, then use the exact name or workspace id.
